Guide to Pelican Cases for Tools

I found myself needing a decent case to carry around my camera equipment and other tools for my hobby ever since my last one broke (I had a Billingham for the last few years), but I wanted something a little bit more versatile this time around. I don’t carry my recording equipment around since I usually record from home anyway, and it seemed like a bit of a waste to spend so much on something I wouldn’t use that much. I am also a network technician and have many tools at home that I use for home repair. I needed a case that could not only accommodate my camera but was also suitable for safeguarding my expensive equipment.

So I figured it would be best to find myself a case that could carry other things around as well, maybe some of my network equipment could use some new and more secure housing, and maybe I could use it to store some of my other tools as well. Of course, me being me, I made a whole list of the best pelican cases for tools and pistols in order to decide which one would be the best for my personal use. Seeing as I already wrote all the pros and the cons, I thought it would be a nice change of pace from my regular content to post that here.

Reasons to buy a Pelican case

A pelican case can offer a number of benefits for those looking for exceptional protection for their belongings. For one, pellets cases are designed with ultra-durable materials that can withstand serious impact and rough handling.

This makes them ideal for storing and transporting any sensitive equipment, from cameras and laptops to delicate scientific instruments. In addition, pelican cases are watertight and airtight, preventing moisture or dust from damaging the contents inside. And because they’re stackable, they’re perfect for those who need to transport multiple items simultaneously.

Ultimately, a pelican case provides superior protection against the elements and physical wear and tear, making it an invaluable asset for anyone who needs to safeguard their valuable belongings.

Plus, Pelican Cases offer a convenient way to transport your belongings, whether you’re going on a hike, to the beach, or on a business trip.

What to look for in a pelican case

Pelican cases come in various sizes and materials, so it’s important to choose the right one for your tools. When selecting a pelican case, think about the following criteria:

– Size: Do you need a large or small case? Consider the number of tools you will be storing and their size when determining which pelican case is right for your needs.

– Material: Most Pelican cases are made from polypropylene plastic and are designed to be highly resistant to water, dust, and impact. If your tools are exposed to extreme temperatures or environments, look into specialty-purpose cases that are designed for that type of use.

– Features: Look for added features like a foam interior, wheels for easier transportation, handle straps, and more. If you plan on air travel with your tools, look for cases that the FAA approves for extra protection.

– Lockable: Many Pelican cases come with lockable latches to keep your tools secure – an important consideration if you will be transporting them in public areas or leaving them unattended.

Watertight and crush-proof case

A watertight and crushproof pelican case offers a unique level of protection for your tools, keeping them safe from water damage, shocks, impacts, dust, and other environmental elements. This makes them ideal for any situation where you might need to store or transport valuable equipment in harsh conditions; they are perfect for outdoor work, traveling, and more. With the added security of lockable latches and a choice of sizes and materials, Pelican cases are the ultimate way to protect your tools.

Personal Experience

I was on an outdoor expedition when a sudden storm rolled in, bringing pouring rain and strong winds. I had to take shelter for the night, but my equipment was exposed to the elements. I was worried that all of the expensive electronics and tools I brought would be ruined.

The next morning, I ventured out into the storm-ravaged area with great trepidation – until I saw it! My watertight and crushproof Pelican case is still intact! Despite being battered by wind and rain all night, my tools were safe and dry inside their protective casing.

That day I learned why you should never skimp on quality tool storage – thanks to my pelican case, my equipment survived unscathed despite some pretty harsh conditions. I now keep my tools and electronics safely secured in a watertight, crushproof Pelican case whenever I venture out into the wilderness. No matter what nature throws at me, my equipment is always safe!

TrekPak Dividers

Trekpak dividers are a type of foam interior specifically designed for Pelican cases. The Trekpak system consists of interlocking dividers that use adjustable pins to separate your equipment, helping you customize the interior of your case so that it fits perfectly around your items and protects them from damage during transport. The dividers can be easily removed or rearranged to make room for larger items, and various accessories are available to help you secure your gear even further. With Trekpak dividers, you can rest assured knowing that all of your equipment is safe and organized inside a Pelican case.

Airline

When flying with a Pelican case, it’s important to be aware of airline carry-on regulations. Most airlines will allow you to bring one piece of hand luggage onboard, provided the bag conforms to their size and weight restrictions. The Pelican case is usually approved as an airline carry-on item. However, some airlines may have stricter rules about total dimensions or weight limits for hand luggage. Before traveling, ensure that your particular model meets all the criteria for your chosen airline. Additionally, always check with the airline regarding any additional requirements or regulations before bringing a Pelican case on board a flight.

Cardholder and rubber handles

Rubber over-molded handles and a cardholder are two features that make Pelican cases even more convenient. The rubber handles are designed to be comfortable and secure, making it easier to grip the case while you’re carrying it. This is especially important when transporting heavier items. The cardholder makes it possible to store an identification or business card outside your case – this can be useful if you need to quickly locate your bag, among other cases, at a busy airport or event. With these additional features, Pelican cases provide added convenience, security, and peace of mind that your valuable tools will stay safe in transit.

Pelican 1730 Transport Case With Foam

The first thing to know about pelican cases is how sturdy they are. They can take ten-foot falls, endure tons of pressure, and go through the roughest of nights and still come out on top. This owes to their fantastic homo co-polymer material that gives them a great amount of sturdiness that is hard to find in many other cases simultaneously. These cases are designed for travel and endurance. The pelican 1730 transport case comes with a lifetime guarantee. It is one of the best pelican cases for tools of all types, including networking, car repair, or computer technician tools.

Its waterproof design lets it go through the roughest rain and keeps your equipment completely dry and water free. It uses an automatic pressure equalization valve that lends itself well to its structure and function. The valve makes it so that the case can keep moisture from getting in by keeping the pressure inside the case constant in a certain way.

This pelican case also comes with ball bearings and rolling wheels attached to its base for easy transport of the case. It is a bit on the heavier side, but having wheels really does mitigate most of the problems caused by it. Like most of the other cases, you will see on this list; this one also comes with an opening to insert a padlock for security and, best of all, even comes with a steel-reinforced one.

Overall, I’d rate this case a solid 6/10. It is a bit on the bulky side, and I personally don’t need something this roomy. The 1730 case comes in at 34.00 x 24.00 x 12.50 inches, which makes it one of the largest cases on this list. This is great if you’re looking for something to hold many things, but I want something for a few tools myself.

Pelican Air 1535 Case With TrekPak Dividers

The next item on the list is the pelican air 1535 case with built-in trekpak dividers. Now this one is perfect for my day-to-day needs and requirements. It comes at a much more reasonable price than the 1730 case and has all the requisites that make it good and great in terms of usability.

The 1535 case is 40% lighter than other polymer cases yet has all its pros. It’s watertight, sturdy, and comes with a lifetime guarantee from the provider. This product also has a watertight O-ring gasket like the previous one and is even crushproof and dustproof so that your equipment and tools can stay clean at all times it. The handles on this are made from rubber and have an over-molded design for easier and better grip. Practically that means it feels a bit nicer to hold.

One of the best things about 1535 that makes it one of the best pelican cases for tools and pistols is the divider system that it comes with. The TrekPak dividers provide a customizable space inside the case to optimally and neatly store all your different tools and gadgets. The dividers give it a better feel overall and make it much more pleasant to work with. It definitely helps with keeping your inventory management. Overall, I’d rate it a pretty good 7.5/10.

Wheels

Rolling wheels, extending trolley handles, and double-throw latches are all features in this case that make it easier to transport tools in a Pelican case. The rolling wheels make it possible to move the case around without lifting it – perfect for carrying heavier tools or equipment. The extending trolley handle allows you to pull your case easily, even over uneven terrain. At the same time, the double-throw latches provide extra security and peace of mind that your equipment is safe and secure during transit. All of these features combine to make Pelican cases one of the most convenient and reliable options for transporting valuable tools and equipment.

My experience

I had a big project and needed to bring my tools with me. I was worried about transporting all of my equipment without spending too much time or energy on it. That’s when I decided to invest in a Pelican case with rolling wheels, an extending trolley handle, and double-throw latches.

The rolling wheels made it easy for me to move the case around – even if it was filled with heavy tools. The trolley handle allowed me to pull the case along effortlessly, even over bumpy terrain. And the double-throw latches offered extra security and peace of mind that my valuable tools were safe and secure during transit.

Pelican Air 1615 Case With Foam

The next one I bought and tested was the 1615 case with foam inside. There’s another 1615 on this list, but that one actually does not have any foam, which is an important distinction. This 1615 case is actually the perfect size for frequent traveling since it is the maximum allowable airline check-in size. It’s small enough that you don’t have to pay extra for the luggage. The case has stainless steel hasp protectors and a well-built and sturdy frame designed to withstand any punishment the world can dish out.

Ring seal

The O-Ring seal and pressure equalization valve are two features in Pelican Air 1615 that help maintain a Pelican case’s internal environment. The O-Ring creates a watertight barrier, preventing any moisture or dust from entering your case. At the same time, the Pressure Equalization Valve helps to balance the interior pressure, which can prevent damage from extreme temperatures or altitude changes. In short, these features help to protect your tools and equipment by keeping them safe and secure in any situation. This is especially important when transporting valuable items over long distances – you can rest assured knowing that your tools won’t be damaged in transit.

Now let’s talk about the foam. It has a great shock absorbent pick pluck foam. That means that the foam inside of the case has perforated foam installed that comes with pre-built tearable lines that make it perfect to create the kind of cavity you need inside of it. A perfect fit with zero foam loss that doesn’t need to be. I really liked this feature and the fact that this case also comes with the famous pelican lifetime guarantee.

If you are dissatisfied with any of the purchases you make from pelican, they do have free returns, so it really is one of the best pelican cases for electronic tools and hardware equipment.

Overall, after factoring in the price, the structure, and the integrity of the case, I would rate this a decent 7.5 out of 10. While not the best pelican case for tools and pistols, it is definitely up there. It is definitely a bit too large and heavy for my taste, so I’ll have to give it a seven personally, but for anyone who needs a large case for their tools, this is a decent choice.

My experience

I recently had to transport my drone across the country for an important shoot – I was worried about keeping it safe along the way but knew I needed to bring it with me. After researching, I decided to invest in a Pelican Air 1615 case. It was compact enough to fit my drone and accessories inside comfortably, and the double-throw latches offered extra security during transit. The O-ring seal provided an airtight barrier against dust and moisture, and the pressure equalization valve protected against extreme temperatures or altitude changes – all of which gave me peace of mind that my valuable drone would be safe during its journey. Ultimately, my drone arrived safely at its destination – thanks to the protection offered by my Pelican Air 1615 case!

Pelican Storm iM2100 Case With Foam

Coming off of the heavy but promising 1615 foam edition, I present the Pelican storm iM2100 case to you. It has a unique toolbox-like design, curved edges, and a rugged bright yellow finish. One nice thing I noticed about this product, in particular, is the fact that it has international shipping available, so you don’t necessarily have to worry about your location.

This one also meets the airline carry-on requirement, so it’s perfect as a tag-along case for your equipment. I, for one, always get a bit iffy leaving my delicate filming equipment in the hands of people who don’t care for it. Speaking of delicate equipment, the iM21000 comes with an impact-resistant HPX shell and foam inside it to provide maximum security and protection to your tools by dispersing the kinetic energy from any impact throughout the case to minimize any possible damage.

It has even passed most military testing requirements, meaning you could use the same case as our wonderful eagle-eyed defenders. That alone makes it one of the best pelican cases for tools and pistols.

After rigorous testing and a week of use, I would rate it around a fantastic nine out of ten simply due to the affordability of this piece. Depending on your stylistic choice,, you might not necessarily like the glaring yellow finish it comes in, but it does come in other, more muted colors, so there is no need to worry in that regard.

User Review

I recently had to transport my camera, lenses, and accessories over a long distance and was concerned about keeping them safe along the way. After researching, I decided to invest in a Pelican Storm iM2100 case. It provided plenty of space to securely store my Canon EOS 80D Camera and two lenses (EFS 17-85mm and EFS 55-250mm) while still being compact enough to fit into an overhead bin. The reinforced core structure offered extra protection against impact damage, while the double-throw latches kept everything secure during transit. Additionally, the O-ring seal protected against dust or moisture entering my case, and the pressure equalization valve balanced interior pressure – both of which gave me peace of mind

Pelican Air 1615 Case No Foam 2020 edition

After the pelican Air 1615 was put into production, the design team went through some iterations of its design and tweaked it a bit here and there, which led to the manufacturing of the 1615 2020 edition. This case is one of the best pelican cases for tools and gadgets out there.

The main differences to its older iteration are its price and some minor features here and there, such as an easy to use push button latches. The design team at pelican decided that the original 1615 case wasn’t ergonomic enough,, so they made some changes to its structure without compromising on its integrity and durability to reduce the price a little bit more. It is remarkably tough and light and uses some remarkable innovations to reach its price point compared to its older version. I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily better than the original, though; just a bit less pricey.

The lack of foam inside it does bring it down a notch for me, so out of 10, I’d rate this around 6.5. It has a larger capacity than the others on this list due to the lack of foam, but that comes at a higher risk for damage due to lack of cushioning, which is not worth it, in my opinion.

Pelican 1200 Case

This is one of the most suitable Pelican cases for sensitive network equipment like optical reflectometers (OTDR) or optical fiber identifiers.

Other than these tools, you can use this case to place any sensitive equipment like a camera or drone that has a chance of getting damaged during load road tours.

If you live in an area with a lot of humidity and want to save your networking equipment from rust, this case is a good choice. The padlock protectors will ensure that your camera’s lens or other fiber optic equipment stays dirt-free. You can customize the foam and place any equipment you want inside, including modems, routers, or other network testing devices.

Pelican Vault V700

The heavy-duty handles ensure you can carry as much heavy network equipment and tools as you want. Secondly, its length is almost 40 inches, so it can easily contain many tools. Garages and basements are mostly humid, which is a killer for your metallic equipment and tools. This Pelican vault is totally moisture-proof, so you can confidently place metallic toolkits in your car or computer repair. Due to the presence of foam, they will also not collide with each other. Under 150 dollars, this is one of the most affordable Pelican cases for tools. Due to more space,, you can place two cameras and a tripod as well in a single case comfortably.

If you are out of town and want to store your valuable stuff under lock, this case should be your number one choice as you can attach up to 4 locks simultaneously. You can place the key of each lock in a separate place for added security.

Conclusion

In general, this list has all the best pelican cases for tools and pistols, which you can use as a good replacement and storage for any firearms or equipment you might have lying about. It’s a great way to keep them safe during your travels and protect them from any water damage. Pelican is a great brand known for its reliability and lifelong use of their products, so they are one of the best manufacturers of these kinds of cases. They might be a little costly, but they last long enough to justify spending that much money on them.
